When you are addicted to drugs or alcohol it might be hard to imagine being free from your addiction. Why is it so hard to quit when you want to, need to, or even have to?
Part of the problem is the overwhelming desire or cravings you might be feeling for the substance you’ve been using. These cravings could be caused by altered brain chemistry that occurs as a result of substance dependence. Studies have shown striking differences between substance dependent and non-substance dependent brains. These studies have led to new treatments designed to address these changes which may contribute to cravings and anxiety.

Medical: In addition to a complete physical assessment, the medical component of the treatment consists of the physician supervised administration of three oral and IV medications, usually in an outpatient setting. These initial treatments occur during three consecutive daily visits of about 2 hours each. For cocaine and methamphetamine patients, a second 2-day treatment occurs approximately three weeks after the initial treatment. Also, a one-month course of non-addictive at-home prescription medications is begun after the initial treatment. The medical component is designed to help relieve cravings and increase mental clarity, to help you abstain from drugs and alcohol and let you focus on your recovery.
Nutritional: During the initial treatment, patients are given nutritional supplementation. Nutritional counseling, based on our nutritional guidelines for patients in recovery, is also provided to each patient to help overcome nutritional deficits commonly found in substance dependent individuals, as well as establish healthy dietary habits designed to support recovery. Proper nutrition can play a crucial role in recovery with the aim of helping you maintain focus and concentration, regulate sleep patterns and support overall good health.
Psychological: Psychological counseling is a critical component of the program and should begin immediately after the initial medical treatment. The type of counseling each patient receives is determined in conjunction with the treating physician-based on a comprehensive assessment-and may include individual or group therapy or any form of 12-step or faith-based programs. A portion of the fee for the Prometa® Treatment Program is earmarked for this crucial component of recovery.
Psychological counseling is crucial to learning how to deal with issues in your life that have led you to, or prevented you from stopping, the abuse of drugs and alcohol.
